Show yourself some love: DIY self-care rituals

February is the month for self-love. Take some time out for you this Valentine's Day with our five DIY self-care rituals for the face, hair and body, guaranteed to make you feel better than any bunch of roses.
1. At-home manicure

While nothing compares to a professional manicure, an at-home mani can be a great opportunity to unwind the mind and give your hard-working hands a little TLC. Begin by washing and exfoliating the hands and cuticles- any nourishing body scrub works great for this (try the Zest Sugar Body Scrub- packed with superfood oils to keep hands soft and supple). Once hands are clean and prepped, trim and file the nails and gently push back cuticles. Apply your favourite nail polish if needed, and one dry, moisturise the hands with the Hand Nutrition Hand Cream, rich in keratin and Vitamin E to strengthen and restore hands and nails.

2. DIY hair treatment

Treat dry, damaged hair to a nourishing at-home hair treatment to regain strength and shine with the Tree of Life Multi-Purpose Balm. Enriched with superfood Buriti ‘Tree of life’ Oil, Sweet Almond and Argan Oil, this deeply moisturising balm can be applied to the lengths and ends of hair. Leave for as long as you have (or sleep with the treatment in your hair- don't forget to put a towel over your pillow!) before rinsing well using Shiny Locks Shampoo to cleanse the hair while maintaining moisture. Tree of Life Multi-Purpose Balm can also be applied sparingly as a styling product to tame fly-aways and restore shine.

3. Multi-masking

If your skin is in need of some extra love, multi-masking is a great way get your glow back. Begin by understanding which areas of your skin need extra attention- are you oilier or prone to breakouts across your forehead, nose and chin? Do your cheeks suffer from dryness or sensitivity? Once you get to know your skin, you can pick the perfect products for you.

  • For dry or sensitive areas, apply Facial Soufflé Ultra-Rich Cream. This thick, indulgent texture is rich in Aquarich®, Rose Damask and Argan Oil to soothe and nourish dry, sensitive skin.
  • For oily skin and breakouts, use the Purifying Clay Mask to draw out impurities while maintaining skin hydration.
  • For areas with pigmentation or dull skin, apply Facial Glow AHA Radiance Polish. This 2-in-1 exfoliating mask helps to brighten and revive tired skin for instant radiance.

4. Facial yoga

Yoga isn't just for the body! Flexing your face muscles can help to relieve tension, reduce puffiness and improve your natural contours. Begin with a cleansed face and apply your favourite facial oil (we love the Calm & Soothe Facial Oil, with Chamomile, Rose Damask and Rosehip Oil for an indulgent aromatherapy experience). Massage the skin using firm pressure, working outwards from the centre of the face. Use sweeping strokes from the nostrils to the ears to chisel your cheek bones, and work along the jawline and down the neck to help reduce puffiness and define the jawline. For an extra treat, try using the Rose Quartz Facial Roller for a cooling, calming facial massage.

5. Invigorating body scrub

Nothing feels as good as an invigorating body scrub. Not only does it help to slough away dry skin and leave the body smooth and radiant, it's also a great way to help boost circulation and encourage blood flow. Whether you're using a body brush or a body scrub (we love the Zest Sugar Body Scrub), always exfoliate on dry skin for maximum effects, and work in long, sweeping motions towards the heart to help encourage lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness. After exfoliating, follow up with a nourishing body cream or body oil (try the Detox Bath & Body Oil) to nourish the skin and lock in moisture.

Wishing you a very Happy Valentine's Day from Elemental Herbology!
