Celebrating Mother's Day: The Mum-to-be
From mum's-to-be to mother figures, we're celebrating every kind of mum this Mother's Day. Today, we're catching up with our Head of Spa for UK & Ireland, (and soon-to-be mum!) Olivia, to hear her top tips and product recommendations to care for your skin throughout pregnancy.
Congratulations on your pregnancy Olivia! What self-care rituals have been getting you through the past few months?
I have always been a bath girl and this is something I have found so warming and comforting in the evenings since becoming pregnant. I have been lucky enough to receive our new pregnancy-safe Nurture Bath & Body Oil to trial throughout my pregnancy- this is currently a spa-only product so it's a real treat to enjoy this at home while spas and salons are closed.
I use three pumps of the oil in my bath and it leaves my skin feeling nourished and less itchy with my growing bump. Many pregnant women will know that their sense of smell is heightened during pregnancy, so certain fragrances can be very overpowering- but this is not the case with the Nurture Oil. It contains Lavender, Rose and Mandarin - a beautiful blend that reduces anxiety, enhances relaxation and encourages a good nights sleep- something very welcomed within pregnancy.
Sounds wonderful. Are there any other products you're enjoying?
I've been loving the Neroli and Rose Damask wash and cream. I find this duo to be a wonderful solution to keeping my skin clean, hydrated and well nourished. The wash does not contain any drying foaming agents and instead uses a coconut derivative to give that luxurious foaming texture. The cream leaves my skin well hydrated and beautifully moisturised following my bath routine. The gentle scent lingers on the skin for hours which I love and continues to help my mind and body relax and boost my over all well-being.
Do you have any tips to help prevent stretch marks?
As a ritual, every morning and evening I have turned to the Tree Of Life Balm to take care of my growing belly. This is the ultimate solution to preventing stretch marks and to boost skin elasticity. As the baby grows, the skin on your stomach can feel tight and itchy and Tree Of Life will prevent the skin feeling stretched and taught. It’s packed with essential nutrients like Argan and Buriti Oil which contains omega- rich essential fatty acids to help repair the skins barrier, keep the moisture locked in and the skin well nourished.
Do you have any at-home massage techniques?
I apply the Tree Of Life Balm in a clockwise, effleurage rotation and follow this with smaller, spiral-like circular movements starting from the naval moving outwards in larger and larger movements. I then focus on applying the balm to my side hips and along the pelvis to keep this area well elasticated. Finally, it’s a beautiful balm to be placed around the breast and chest area to help keep the skin feeling firm and supple. It’s also exceptional at boosting collagen production. I apply the balm in circular movements always draining towards the armpit.
