All About Eyes: Choosing the right eye cream for you.
Finding the right eye product that works for you can feel like a chore, but it doesn't need to. By understanding why we need an eye cream, and what your main concerns are, we can make the choice easier. Here's our handy guide to finding the right eye cream for you.
Are eye creams an essential or an extra?
Eye creams may be one of the last things you add into your routine, but they're one of the most important. The skin around our eye area is more delicate and fragile than the rest of our skin and needs some extra TLC to maintain hydration. The area around our eyes also moves a lot throughout the day, from smiling, laughing, frowing or crying, there's no expression that doesn't put some strain on the eye area!
When should I use an eye cream?
Some eye creams contain powerful anti-ageing actives that are best used during the night, while others focus on de-puffing and brightening which may be better suited to the morning. In general, using an eye cream AM and PM will give you the best results, but it's important to find textures that work for both.
Make sure to apply your eye product to clean, dry skin, before applying your serum and moisturiser. This will ensure your skin absorbs the active ingredients in your eye cream first, rather than leaving them sat on top of the skin.
How to apply your eye cream
To get the most out of your eye cream, apply a grain of rice size of product to your ring finger and gently tap around the orbital bone, starting from the outside corner and moving in towards the tear duct. You don't need to apply the product too close to the eye itself as this can actually increase puffiness, and be careful not to apply too much product to the eye lid (although a little can work well to firm and lift!)
Which eye cream is best for me?
When looking at your eye area, what is your main concern? Is it fine lines and wrinkles? Puffiness? Dark circles and dullness, or simply adding moisture to the eye area and preventing dehydration? This will help you to find a product with the ingredients able to give you the results you're looking for.
- Fine lines and wrinkes: Peptides, Retinol (or retinol derivatives), Collagen, Arginine
- Puffiness: Caffeine, Green Tea, Vitamin K
- Dark circles and dullness: Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Antioxidants
- Hydration and plumping: Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Vera, Kombucha, Glycerin, Squalane
