Trick or truth- Debunking skincare myths

This Halloween, we're debunking some of the common skincare myths- no more tricks around here!

1. People with oily skin should avoid facial oils

TRICK: Facial oils can be beneficial for all skin types, including oily, as it can help to regulate oil production in the skin. Stick to lightweight oils like jojoba (try our Water Soothe Facial Oil) and use just a couple of times a week.

2. You should exfoliate your skin daily

TRICK: For most people, exfoliating your skin every day can cause irritation and may strip the skin of its natural oils. Instead, we suggest exfoliating 2-3 times a week depending on your skin type. Sensitive skins may prefer to skip manual exfoliators all together and stick to gentle AHA's, such as our Multi-Acid Facial Pads.

3. Your skin is affected by the seasons

TRUTH: The change in temperature, UV, wind and humidity can all have a direct impact on the way your skin behaves. Just like we change our wardrobe with the seasons, we should also change our skincare!

4. The more product you use, the quicker you'll see results

TRICK: Less is more when it comes to skincare. If your product says 'use 1-2 pumps' stick to it. Using excess product won't have any positive effect on your skin, but will have a negative effect on your bank balance!

5. Wearing make-up ages your skin

TRICK: Modern make-up formulas often contain great skincare ingredients and can offer a small level of protection from environmental damage too. However, make-up should never replace a good skincare routine, and removing your make-up daily is a must. (We like Purify & Soothe Cleansing Balm)

6. Sugar is bad for your skin

TRUTH: Unfortunately there is some truth in this one... Sorry trick or treaters! Refined sugar can cause skin inflammation, which in turn can exaggerate conditions such as rosacea and acne. If you're prone to inflammation, it may be worth cutting down your sugar intake.

7. Skincare ranges can be mixed and matched

TRUTH: We believe mixing and matching can be a great way to tailor your routine to your skin concerns. For example, you might mostly use products for oily skin, but like to add in a richer serum for some extra hydration. We have five different ranges, all of which can be mixed and matched throughout the year.
