Top tips for Spring skin…

Lou Riby

Louise Riby, Managing Director Elemental Herbology

After what has seemed like the longest winter ever, Spring is finally here with us and it’s a joy to feel the warmth of the sun once again after the dark winter months.

As with all season change, it is time to look at our wardrobe and start to wear some colour and lighter fabrics and get rid of the heavy winter clothes. As with our clothes, it is time to change our skincare routine. Below are my top tips for flawless Spring skin.

Leave your winter skin behind:
I like to use a gentle exfoliator to remove the dead cells and make way for a brighter complexion. My favourite is our Facial Glow Radiance Peel containing Apple serum, Jojoba Beads, Tea and Pomegranate, it has a dual exfoliating action with fruit acids and Jojoba beads, so you get double the effect. It should be used at least once a week and leaves my skin so clear and radiant. I always like to follow with a hydration mask and my favourite at the moment is the Nutrition Infusion Sheet Mask, packed with Aloe Vera, Kombucha and Vitamin B3, super easy to pop on the face, although please don’t take a selfie!!

Double cleanse:
I am a big fan of double cleansing, it sounds like hard work but believe you me it isn’t…. I always cleanse twice in the evening using Purify & Soothe (with Argan Oil –deeply hydrating) to remove all of my make-up, eye make-up. I like to use a muslin cloth as it helps to exfoliate the skin too. I then follow with Vital Cleanse which has Papaya, Vitamin C and Manuka Honey leaving the skin bright and refreshed. In the morning I just use either Vital Cleanse or Cool & Clear in the shower and wash my face removing traces of toxins expelled onto the skin while we have been sleeping.

SPF is key:
No matter what the weather or season, an SPF is probably the most important part of your skincare regime. I always wear a moisturiser containing SPF as it allows you to kill two birds with one stone and hydrate skin while also fighting against environmental factors. My favourite is Perfect Balance Moisturiser contains SPF 12 to help protect against UV rays but also giving your complexion radiance and vitality. When applying moisturiser, don’t forget your neck and décolleté, this is often an area that’s neglected and so doesn’t get the attention it needs.

Time to move!
As the weather gets warmer I love to spend more time outside. Whether it's a stroll in the park, cycling to work or a long country walk at the weekend, I often find that my legs feel tired and begin to ache. I love to run a warm bath with Wood Rejuvenation Bath & Body Oil with Rosemary, Ho Wood & Nutmeg essential oils to soothe any aches and pains I might have. For more targeted relief, I use Muscle Melt Balm in areas of concern such as calves or shoulders and instantly feel my muscles relax.

Get your body ready for unveiling those limbs…

I also start to exfoliate my body as I would my face, this improves the texture and tone of your skin, I use the Macadamia & Papaya Body Scrub at least once a week and have some “me time”. I massage the scrub all over my body and like the Facial Glow it has a dual action with Fruit Enzymes, Sugar and Salt.  Once I have showered the scrub off, I apply Watermelon & Cucumber Body Moisturiser to dry skin. I love how easily it sinks into the skin and the refreshing scent.

Eat for the season:
Once the season changes my eating habits do too, I am passionate about eating seasonally and believe that you are what you eat, and your body will always crave what it needs…. Eating seasonally means that you’re getting the nutrients and minerals your body needs this time of year. Fruit and vegetables that are now coming into season include:

Savoy Cabbage
Spring Greens
Spring Onion
Jersey Royal New Potatoes
Purple Sprouting Broccoli

These simple changes will give huge benefits to your skin, body and overall wellbeing. Try one of these tips each week and begin to see and feel the difference instantly.
