How to Detox during Winter

The Western idea of Detoxing is about eating pure, raw and unadulterated food and while in the warmer summer months your body can handle a higher level of raw and cold energy foods we would never recommend detoxing on raw foods during winter.

During winter our body is having to cope with an increase consumption of external coldness and dampness. Cold and damp can invade and lurk in our bodies leading to poor digestion, tiredness, depression and pain in our joints, headache and abdominal pain.

To help our bodies deal with this external cold it is really important that you keep your yang energy strong and energised so it can fight off any invasion. If you want to expel toxins and purifying your system during the winter months focus on warming vegetable broths and stews made with lots of hearty root vegetables – carrots, parsnips, beetroot and turnips, brown rice with ginger. Avoid caffeine and alcohol and replace with lots of dandelion tea.
