World Wellness Weekend: The Five Pillars of Wellness

Here at Elemental Herbology, health and wellness is at our core. That's why from 18th-19th September, we're celebrating World Wellness Weekend, a weekend created to inspire and empower people around the world to make healthier choices and enjoy an active lifestyle with family & friends.

From setting aside time to practice mindfulness, yoga or meditation, to simply enjoying five minutes alone time to apply your favourite moisturiser, practicing small acts of wellness throughout your day has never been so important. With poor mental health being the leading cause of sickness in the UK, it's more important than ever to prioritse time spent on your physical and mental health.

The Five Pillars of Wellness
1. Sleep & Creativity

We all know that sleep is important, but did you know that over half of all adults feel that they don’t sleep well? We believe that taking the time to switch off before bed can really help us to sleep better. Try to limit your caffiene intake after 3pm, reduce your screen time as bedtime approaches and practice some evening rituals to help calm the mind. We love to light our Soothe Aromatherapy Candle and take a bath with our Soothe Bath & Body Oil. The calming aroma of lavender, rose damask and ylang ylang help to encourage a peaceful nights sleep.

2. Nutrition & Immunity

You are what you eat! By ensuring that we're fuelling our bodies with proper nutrients and eating a balanced diet rich in our essential food groups, we can actually help to strengthen our immune systems and protect against a whole host of chronic diseases. What's more, the gut-brain link means that eating a diet full of omega-rich, gut-friendly foods can help to improve brain health and reduce mental health illnesses. We take the same approach to skincare, including probiotic-rich ingredients such as kombucha in our Vital Eyes Roll-On Serum to fortify the skin and reduce environmental damage.

3. Vitality & Movement

Increasing your movement doesn't have to mean becoming a slave to the gym! Making quick and easy changes to your daily routine can have a huge impact on your vitality, helping to balance your energy levels and improve your overall body and mental health. Try parking a street away from your destination, choosing the stairs over the elevator or enjoying a daily walk on your lunch break. If you do enjoy an active lifestyle, don't forget to pack Muscle Melt Balm in your gym bag. This warming balm soothes muscle fatigue and tension pre and post workout, helping to aid recovery.

4. Serenity & Mindfulness

Managing stress and anxiety amidst a busy life can feel like a big task, but developing a tool kit of simple, effective ways to manage these feelings can prevent them from getting on top of us. Practicing mindfulness can mean different things for different people- some may enjoy yoga, mindful breathing and meditation, while others may find journalling, painting or crosswords more effective. Whatever works for you, be sure to make it a habit and practice your mindfulness regularly so you feel well equipped to deal with feelings of stress and anxiety when they come. The power of aromatherapy can be a great way to encourage mindfulness. Try scenting your space with the Zest Reed Diffuser to create a sense of serenity.

5. Purpose & Solidarity

We all need purpose in our lives to help us feel secure, valued and worthy. If you don't yet feel like you have found yours, begin by thinking about what makes you feel happy and fulfilled. Is it your career or working hard towards achieving a goal? Is it knowing that you're a kind, caring person that others can rely on? Whatever it may be, explore ways that you can use it to serve others and build a sense of community. This might include sharing your knowledge to help others reach their goals, or donating your time to help those in need.
